Offset A WeddingWe have tried to make offsetting a wedding as easy as possible. It is true to say that almost everything we do produces C02 emissions. In the context of a wedding, the factors to possibly include can be almost endless. There's the cooking for the catering to the miles driven by the guests; let's not forget the electricity for the bridesmaid's hairdryer, nor the best man's bus trip to town to pick up a hire suit. You're having a disco and that has flashing lights ... and the champagne you'll drink has been shipped in from France. And so on! Sensibly, it is impossible to attempt to be detailed and highly accurate when calculating the likely emissions and besides, you have far better things to do than to spend your time time trying. A Simple SolutionWith that in mind, we've tried to take a commonsense 'best guess' approach. We factored in averages for all the major aspects - likely car travel, catering, heat and light and so on, and that gave us a figure of around about 65kg of C02 per guest. A major addition to this would be any air travel - which produces a lot of C02. So, if there will be a honeymoon that involves jet travel, or if there are guests flying-in, you might want to include the flight emissions as well and we've included this in our offsetting service too - including a flight-distance calculator. |
